Dr. Mark J. Weimer
is a fourth generation
California native. Born and
raised in Northern California,
he spent a lot of time on the
family ranch in the San Joaquin
Valley. He still remembers his
first veterinarian experience,
at the age of seven, assisting
his veterinarian uncle in the
spay and neuter of many ranch
cats. Born with a mind to learn
quickly, Mark chose veterinary
medicine for his life's
profession.
Dr. Weimer was introduced to
Southern California when he
attended USC and graduated in
1982 with a degree in biology.
In 1986, he graduated Summa Cum
Laude from the University of
Tennessee, College of Veterinary
Medicine. Dr. Weimer is also a
member of Phi Zeta Veterinary
Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi and
received The Schneider Honors
Award and the Sheidy Prize for
Pharmacology.
Dr. Weimer began practicing
veterinary medicine in 1986 in
Chatsworth, California, then
relocated to Bear Valley Animal
Hospital in Big Bear Lake,
California where he served as
hospital manager and provided
veterinary services to various
indigenous species at the local
zoo.
In 1988, Dr. Weimer began
serving the Long Beach and
surrounding community at the
Mercy Animal Medical Center also
as hospital manager and
providing veterinary medical and
surgical services to small
animals and exotics.

Beginning in 1992, Dr. Weimer
became an associate veterinarian
at South Shores Pet Clinic
providing veterinary medical and
surgical care to small animals,
avian and exotic species,
leading to co-ownership in 1994
with Dr. Steed.
Beginning in 1993, the Marine
Mammal Care Center at Fort
MacArthur in San Pedro selected
Dr. Weimer to provide
comprehensive veterinary medical
and surgical care to sick and
injured marine mammals including
seals, sea lions and dolphins.
Together with Dr. Steed, Dr.
Weimer continues his veterinary
responsibilities to sea life at
the Marine Mammal Care Center to
present day.
Capitalizing on the Marine
Mammal Care's confidence with
Dr. Weimer's veterinary skills,
the Long Beach Aquarium of the
Pacific entrusts Dr. Weimer to
provide veterinary medical and
surgical care for the fish,
reptiles, birds and various
marine mammals at the aquarium.
Dr. Weimer is a member of the
American Veterinary Medical
Association, the Southern
California Veterinary Medical
Association, The California
Veterinary Medical Association
and American Animal Hospital
Associations.
Dr. Weimer is married to
Christine. They have twin boys
named Wills and Harrison and a
daughter named Ava.
Dr. Weimer enjoys his free time
with his family and as driver in
amateur and professional auto
racing.
Dr. Weimer's mission at South
Shores Pet Clinic, and for his
life, is to use his talents,
education, and training, to
benefit others. Whether
responding to a late night call
to care for a sick sea lion, a
cat that's been hit by a car or
some other life saving
procedure, Dr. Weimer always
strives to provide the highest
level of veterinary medicine to
his clients and their pets and
plans on doing so for many years
to come.

Dr. Van P. Steed
was born into a farming,
ranching family in Texas and was
raised with a love of animals.
His family has farmed and
ranched in the Texas panhandle
since 1896 so his familiarity
with and love for animals came
naturally and inspired him to
excel. Dr. Steed choose
veterinary medicine for his
life's career.
Van was named to Who's Who in
American Colleges and
Universities and was awarded the
Senior Merit Award from the
College of Agriculture. He
graduated Magna Cum Laude from
Texas A & M University in 1978
with a Bachelor of Science in
Animal Science, and received
another B.S. in Veterinary
Science in 1980. He received his
doctor of Veterinary Medicine
from Texas A & M College of
Veterinarian Medicine in 1981.

Dr.
Steed began practicing
Veterinarian Medicine in 1981.
He is licensed for surgical and
general animal health care in
California, New Mexico,
Oklahoma,and Texas. He was
fundamental to Interferon
Research at Texas A & M
University Agriculture Extension
Services, he and his group
publishing "Improved Survival of
Four Cats Infected with Feline
Leukemia Virus: After Oral
Administration of Interferon"
(May- June 1987)
Dr. Steed started caring for animals
in a mixed animal practice,
including Quarter Horse breeding
and cow and calf herd health, as
well as medical and surgical
care for cats and dogs. In 1987,
Dr. Steed moved from Texas to
California and started
delivering expert medical and
surgical care to dogs, cats,
avian, and exotic species as an
Associate Veterinarian at South
Shores Pet Clinic.
In 1994, Dr. Steed formed a
partnership with Mark J. Weimer,
DVM and officially took
co-ownership with Dr. Weimer of
South Shore Pet Clinic. Since
then, Dr.'s Steed and Weimer
have delivered unsurpassed
quality state of the art
Veterinarian Services to dogs,
cats, and other small domestic
animals and exotics to the San
Pedro and surrounding South Bay
communities.
Dr. Steed's skills were
recognized by the Marine Mammal
Care Center at Fort MacArthur in
San Pedro when he was asked to
deliver comprehensive medical
and surgical care to sick and
injured seals, sea lions and
cetaceans which he continues
doing to present day.
Utilizing his marine care
experience, Dr. Steed is one of
the consulting providers of
comprehensive veterinary
services for all species of
marine mammals, reptiles, avian,
and aquatic life at the Long
Beach Aquarium of the Pacific.
In addition to providing health
care, Van belongs to numerous
professional organizations
including The American
Veterinary Medical Association,
the Southern California
Veterinary Medical Association,
the American Animal Hospital
Association, and the Lions Club
of San Pedro since 1987, serving
as President from 1992-1993.
Dr. Steed is married to Gina. He
has two sons, a daughter, two
step daughters, four cats, two
dogs, and flies private
aircraft.
Dr. Steed's mission at South
Shores Pet Clinic, and for his
life, is to combine his
education, experience, talent,
energy, with a heart the size of
his birth state to better the
lives of others. He delivers
unsurpassed veterinary care to
furry legged family members.
